Martlets Shutout by LC

Within the first minute of the game, the center striker of the opposing team forced her way into the box for an easy goal. That set the stage for a long afternoon against the Pelicans of Loomis. The girls on Loomis dominated possession in the first half, only allowing a few shots on goal in the 35:00 of playing time. The defense of Westminster was kept busy throughout. Rotayvia Butler ‘27 did excellent work in trying to keep the swarming offense at bay. Lily Shuster ‘27 still continued to show her skills in goal and made quite a few saves in both halves. Down 2-0 at the half, Westminster tried to regroup. However, their opponents refused to slow down the tempo and kept up a high level of aggression throughout. There were a few moments in the second half where Maddy Manafort ‘28, Gloria Oh ‘28, Janet Kiburi ‘26, Sophie McKenna ‘27 and Jennifer Weber ‘26 found some room to work in front of the net, but the Loomis defense held strong and kept the shutout. Captain Ellie Pearman ‘25 played strong as a center midfielder in this half as well. Several players on the Loomis squad showcased incredible skills and it often felt like Westminster was facing a varsity team. The girls hope to regroup for their next game which is not until October 16.
