Martlets Fall to St. Mark's

In what always figured to be the most exciting match of the regular season, the girls lost a tight contest against visiting St. Mark’s. Each team was playing without a top-of-the-ladder player – in the Martlets’ case it was #2 Elle Wilson ‘26. In the end, it was the Lions’ depth that proved decisive, as the Martlets took the top three matches and the Lions took the bottom four. Shout-outs go to Sophia Lazor ‘27 and co-captain Emily Fonner ‘26, who won with deadly shooting at #1 and #3, respectively. Very good matches were also played by #5 Natasha Johnson ‘27 (10, 10, (7), 2), #6 Anna Min ‘27 ((7), 6, 9, 3), and #7 Meiyin Ren ‘25 (5, 6, (7), 10), all of whom came close to securing the final point needed. Special notice also goes to Caroline Callen ‘26, playing in her first match, who came back from two games down to extend her exhibition match to five sets, unfortunately falling just short (12, 5, (4), (10), 5). The girls may well get a chance for a rematch against the Lions at the High School Nationals and at the New England tournament.
