Boston College Eagles’ senior center Ben Smith ’06 and defenseman Tommy Cross ’08 helped deliver the national championship win for the Eagles men’s ice hockey team at the 2010 Frozen Four. The No. 3-ranked Eagles won the fourth NCAA title in the school's history, claiming a 5-0 victory over the No. 2-ranked Wisconsin Badgers in front of a world indoor attendance record crowd of 37,592 fans on April 10.
Smith earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2010 Frozen Four, where he scored two goals and one assist in the Eagles’ semifinal 7-1 victory over Miami (Ohio) and the first goal in the Eagles’ NCAA championship victory over Wisconsin. And the excitement didn’t end there. On April 14, the Chicago Blackhawks organization signed him to a two-year contract for its American Hockey League affiliate in Rockford, Ill., the Rockford IceHogs.
Cross played in 38 games for the Eagles in 2009-10, registering 10 points — five goals and five assists. He will serve as assistant captain of the 2010-11 team.
