Martlets Fall to Rhinos

The Martlets took Hovey field for the last time this season against defending New England champions, Taft. The Martlets started a little slow, with Taft maintaining most of the momentum throughout the first quarter. With about five minutes remaining in the first quarter, Taft would get their first goal of the game from a successful offensive corner. As the second quarter began, the Martlets started to increase their possession and get some chances in the offensive zone. The second quarter was a back and forth game, with both teams earning their chances. Despite the Martlets playing well, a late second quarter goal from Taft would increase their lead to 2-0 going into the half. During half time, the Martlets recognized that they were still in this game. The Martlets took over the momentum in the third quarter, putting together multiple solid chances and keeping the ball away from the talented Taft team. About halfway through the third quarter, Taft would call a timeout to regroup. Not long after, the Rhinos would get their third goal of the game. The Martlets continued to work hard and chip away at the three goal deficit they were facing and with about five minutes left in the quarter, they were able to get on the scoreboard from a successful offensive corner. Lily Vincent ’25 got the ball in the circle, which found the stick of Hadley Cowther ’25 who quickly turned and put the ball in the back of the net! Unfortunately, Taft took back the momentum when just a few minutes later they increased their lead making the score 4-1. Taft was able to control the ball and limit the Martlet’s chances for the remainder of the game which ended in a 4-1 loss. The Martlets look forward to their next game of the season against Berkshire on Saturday November 2nd.
