Martlets Fall to AOF

The Martlets traveled to Avon Old Farms (AOF) for their first official game of the season. The match was set for 80 minutes in total. In the initial 5 minutes, the Martlets were well-positioned, but their defense lost composure after 8 minutes, allowing AOF to score their first goal. Despite this setback, Charlie Hansell ’28 demonstrated excellent possession around the field. Lane Gallagher ’25 took several shots at goal, but none were successful. Although the Martlets displayed strong play, they had moments of losing control, which allowed AOF to capitalize and score three more goals. As the half drew to a close, Teddy Russell ’26 and Luke Champoux ’28 made attempts at goal and moved with structure and penetration, but their efforts did not lead to any goals before halftime.
In the second half, Lane Gallagher ’25, Teddy Russell ’26, and Charlie Hansell ’28 showed great composure and consistency, lifting the Martlets' spirits. Their improved gameplay resulted in Junian Kim ’27 scoring the first goal for Westminster. Despite increasing pressure on AOF, the opposition managed to score two additional goals. The Martlets ultimately lost the game but needed to focus on tactics such as delegation, structure, and addressing their opponent’s weaknesses. Go Martlets!
