Martlets Fall in Season Finale

The Martlets took the field for the final time this season to take on Governor’s Academy! It was a beautiful fall day in Byfield, MA and everyone was excited to play after a week of practices. The game got off to a strong start for the Martlets. The team did a great job moving the ball up field and made important stops on defense when necessary. Although the Martlets had a strong start, they finished the half with a 1-0 deficit. After using halftime to rest and regroup, the Martlets were feeling confident heading into the third quarter. The third quarter was very back and forth, with both teams having a handful of solid chances. Eventually, Govs would add one more to the board bringing the score to 2-0. Entering the final quarter down by two, the Martlets kept the energy up and gave everything they had to complete the comeback. With about 4 minutes left, the Martlets earned an offensive corner and capitalized! Allysen Whitehead ‘25 received the ball in the circle and did a great job of protecting the ball from the opposing defense and put the ball in the back of the net! This would cut Governor’s lead in half! The final few minutes of the game, the Martlets left everything on the field but were unable to score another. Although this game will count as a loss, there were so many positives. It was one of the most complete games the Martlets have played all season! The spirits were high and the Martlets were able to look back on this season with a lot to be proud of!

Our Grit and Grace players of the game go to all of our Martlets! It was a collective effort this season and each player contributed so much to this team! Thank you, Martlets!
