Martlets Shutout Suffield

You might say this was a “Statement” game by the 3rds Girls of Westminster. The team was showing signs of success during their Wednesday game a few days earlier (a game they felt they should have won) and had two days of excellent practice leading up to the game this Saturday afternoon. They dominated from start to finish, ending the game with a 4-0 score. Kaitlyn Buda ‘27 continued to have success as a striker and put two goals in during the first half. Both goals were set up by excellent ball control and passing, beginning with great play from midfielders Luna Yang ‘26 and Caroline Hebbeler ‘27. In the second half Gloria Oh ‘28, was honored with a penalty kick after a handball in the box. Her shot was true and all net. Maddy Manafort ‘28 was able to get her second goal of the young season with one minute remaining in the game to seal the victory. This was a true team effort, so it’s unfair just to single out the offense. The entire team played well and acknowledgement should go to Lily Shuster in goal for the shutout. Her defense in front was strong today, with remarkable play from Sophie McKenna ‘27 and Macey Sheehan ‘27, both taking the role of sweeper. Daryna Atamaniuk ‘26 and Rotayvia Butler ‘27 were outstanding on the defensive side of the ball, and it should be noted that this was Daryna’s first game of the season and first game at Westminster! These Martlets are excited to play their first away game of the season next Saturday at Choate and hope to keep the momentum going.
